There's an interesting scene in the original version of The Manchurian Candidate where senator Islin gets the number 57 as the number of of communists in a the State Department.

The Manchurian Candidate (the original, good version) was just shown on Turner Classic Movies.  I recorded it. The new version is just "big business as conspiracy" crap.

The good thing about the classic is that Raymond Shaw hates his mother and step-father who are Joe McCarthy clones.  But Raymond gets a job with a well known and well respected Republican.  Since his mother and step-father turn out to be communist sympathizers and hate his boss, that would make the anti-Americans...Democrats.  I'll go with that.

"Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life."

the other thing that really stands out about that film was the frank sinatra karate fight.
