Thanks for turning me on to Francis Urquhart talk about a Machiavellian character. 

The two lobe's of Levi's brain are called his right and left testical.  In a years time Levi will be a has been Souith LA porn star living in his car suffering from a case of terminal crotch crickets. .

I just finished the chapter seven of The Path Of Life.

Back in the dining room with Miriam and The Committee I decided to repeat the toast I gave at my last supper.

I stood up, picked up and raised the wine glass, and spoke.

“To the path of life.”

I took a sip, it was a very good white wine.

After we began to eat I asked a question.

“So what happened after I was frozen down?”

Andy spoke first.

“The first thing that happened was that the earthside assets of Marscorp and of individual Martians were seized by the Murder Party.  That’s what we started to call the MRD.  [Movement to Restore Democracy -- LB]   And when that didn’t have the desired effect getting us to knuckle under, the glorious leader tried to send the armed forces into action.”

Kira jumped in.

“You forgot to mention the raucous celebrations back on Earth when they got the word of his apparent demise.”  She said.  “Practically all of the Zeroists came out of their hiding places and danced in the streets, and it became very readily apparent right there that they were a significant driving force within the Murder Party.”

It was apparently Frank’s turn to lecture.

“My turn.”  He said.  “The glorious leader ordered the Aerospace Force to bomb the habitats on Mars.  Apparently that idiot couldn’t get it through his thick skull that the Aerospace Force didn’t have the assets or that his will did not supercede the laws of nature.  Once this was explained to him, apparently with puppets and a sing-along, that they had to wait for the next launch window to be able to do anything, he issued a different and more detailed set of orders.”

Frank paused for a breath, and then continued.

“Four passenger transports were requisitioned -- nice word there -- and refitted for the mission.  Three of the transports were loaded with a special unit.  A bunch of Zeroists, about six hundred, were released from prison and given training in the use of weapons and pressure suits and loaded onto the first three transports.  They were called the ‘justice unit’.  Two of those transports actually made it to Mars.”

“What happened to the third?”  I asked.

“Good question.”  Frank replied.  “After the g-drive was developed someone went out and found the hulk and examined it.  Apparently one of the female crew members sabotaged the automatic controls for the airlocks and then manually opened the main airlock herself.  Her diary was found.  She and other female crew members had been raped by members of the so-called justice unit.”

“Not really what we would call a surprise.”  I said.

Mark Whittington wote an alternate history of FU where he takes advantage of the 9/11 attack to further his own national and personal goals.

I also thought that FU would make an interesting character in the backstory of a home brewed universe for a science fiction role playing game.
